ipod classic just arrived

Improved battery life with the new classic apparently. I'll let you know how i get on soon.

How long should i charge it for? Is it ok to plug it into my works computer to charge, then trasfer songs when i get home?

Dr Jones- thanks. Can i transfer a few songs onto it or would that mess it up for later use. I dont mind reformatting, id only be putting a few albums on for the weekend travels :)

I have it connected now. It says Connected and under that 'eject before disconnecting' There is an icon in the upper right that is a clear white battery logo with a little black connection picture in the middle.

Does this mean it is properly charging? (or just connected)

My nano used to have a flashing logo for charging

I just dug this up from the depths of the net.

'A battery icon in the top-right corner of the iPod's display shows how much charge is left. If you connect the iPod and the battery icon does not animate its battery is fully charged. Lithium-ion batteries such as those used in iPod have none of the memory effects seen in nickel-based rechargeable batteries. The battery stops charging when it's full. You can leave it plugged overnight for example'

Im sure i saw the unanimated icon since i plugged it in. Maybe not though
