Ok, I've got around £200 to spend on an ipod adapter and a headunit.

I'm strongly considering the PIONEER-DEH-P55BT but whats the display like on this HU?

Are there any that are better than this headunit in my budget?

Just do it, great combination the DEH-P55BT and an CD-IB100.

The Alpine 9850Ri might be worth a look, but the Pioneer's got a bluetooth phone kit built in, so arguably, it's a bit better.

I would have gone for the Pioneer if I hadn't already got a car kit installed - in the end I got a 9856R and KCA-420i, which is great, but the interface is really slow when scrolling through track lists.

Anyone know how the alpine 9850Ri compares to the pioneer + interface, for speed and ease of use

to be honest i dont like the look of the alpine, design and functionality are leaning me towards the pioneer but if the pioneer is dog slow then i may have to reconsider

Yep, fitted that combination for my ex-gf a few months after fitting mine. Hers is slower to navigate through the albums/artists, and pauses more often between tracks.

Prefer the ease of use of the pioneer also.

I fitted the 80BT with the ipod adapter for a girl I know a while back and whilst I preferred the interface for scrolling through albums I found it was a bit slow wheras my 9850Ri was a lot quicker with less pauses, whether this is because she had an old 3rd gen ipod and I had a video ipod I don't know.

Either way doesn't matter because someone broke in and nicked my 9850ri and ipod after a couple of weeks of fitting :(

I've got the 9850ri, it was coupled upto an old 3rd gen 30g I-pod and was rapid for scrolling through the tracks.
Only problem is that someone broke in and nicked the i-pod, plus ripped the lead off. £53 for a new lead
Also charges the i-pod as well, which is good.
I don't know about the Pioneer.
