Bought a second hand iPod Classic (40GB) which was working OK. But in iTune I tried to reset it to basically wipe it clean. It seemed to fail to do this.

Now my computer doesn't seem to recognise/see the unit at all (tried two different iPod leads), and even re-installed iTunes.

If I hold down the center button and home I get either a symbol seemingly telling me to plug a cable in, if the usb lead is not in, or a static recharging symbol if the USB lead is in.

Anyone got any suggestions before I bin it :(

Slide on the hold switch on then off, hold the menu and centre button for about 10 seconds. That should do a hard reset.

If that doesn't work, make some thermite and destroy it for our amusement.

Cheers. Tried that (with it plugged in to USB).

Get the apple symbol and then it reverts to this symbol suggesting I need to plug a cable in?! Hard drive is constantly going...

If I try it plugged int o USB, same happens except it ends up on the (static) charging/battery symbol. (Hard drive not spinning)

ps: Even tried plugging it into another machine, and that doesn't see it either (not on usb).
