Ipod in Car

why would a aux lead cable break so easily?

Because the iPod isn't anywhere secure, it moves, and the more it moves, the more it cracks the cable.

i just used a mini iso off the headunit to rcas, cut and soldered them into a jack from ****** and mounted the jack into a button blank trim, then i can plug my ipod, or any 3.5 cable into there and run off aux. works a treat, looks neat and tidy and cost £5.

Looks tidy? Having any form of cable sticking out of your interior trim looks crap. You also then have to control the iPod through the iPod, pretty pants.

So instead of using a tape adapter we've gone to an aux lead, well done, it will have exactly the same issue he was having in the first place (broken lead).

Any HU for £50 or less will be naff, infact anything sub £140 is pants.

You don't want to buy new, look on e-bay for a proper Ipod HU or don't bother (IMHO).

It actually is a superb HU for the money. MP3, Aux in, Pre-outs.

Sounds so so good with a sub and amp and i'm still using standard ford 5x7's.

Excellent for someone on a budget.

heres a couple pics, coupled with Brodit ipod cradle its a good solution imho.

put the ipod in a cradle?

and yes it looks perfectly tidy, and is easily reversable when the car is sold. And some people, myself included might prefer to control thru the iPod, there is a Ipod adaptor for my headunit which I bought and didn't like the interface of, hence making up this solution. Also the ipod is in a far better postion to control than my headunit is, its closer.

Sorry, but ghetto ports slapped into the dash will never and have never looked "tidy". And how you can prefer to control the audio through the iPod, then change the volume through the stereo is beyond me.

lmfao, how is that a ghetto port, its the same sort of thing used in my BMW in fact, although it is hidden in that admittidly. Its hardly slapped in either, its in a button blank. You can't actually see it with the ipod sat in the new cradle anyway.

I prefer to control it thru the ipod as I stated, because I don't like the interface my headunit uses with the adaptor kit. My ipod is a touch, and has the volume on a bar I just tap on the bottom of the screen, which has enough range for me to never need to touch the headunit.

Well, you could always just control both with the iPod...

I'd also much rather control things through the interface on an iPod Touch than a Headunit, much faster. I think 5G vs HU would be about on a par.

Oh, and wtf are you on about moving cables cracking? :/ That'd be why my headphones die after 3 months and I keep needing new ones is it? Oh no, wait...

Decent pair of headphones cost more than the crap they use to make cassette adapters ;)

You seen the wiring on them, not exactly pliant.

Yeah exactly, so he wouldn't have the same problem with an aux cable because they don't tend to just break...

(Though, for what it's worth my mate has a cheap cassette adaptor in his car and it's lasted a year of being strewn loosely in his car, passed from passenger to passenger during journeys so everyone can choose music etc. and it hasn't broken yet)

decent aux wiring is generally better quality than is used in cassette adaptors surely? Not that its relevent if you are using a cradle as the cable doesn't move.

When i was a kid i thought my £300 sony Hi-Fi sounded good, now i'm older i know better.

I suppose expectations come into it, but i'm affraid a £50 HU will never sound 'so so good', you should listen to something that sounds good then make judgement.

See, I think it would sound good, based on the following :

I have a Sony BT2600, cost £100, but is really a bluetooth version of a £60 head unit.

It sounds FANTASTIC in my Passat because the stock one was pants, on that same note, for stock speakers VW ones are pretty damn good!

I think what you're referring to as good sound may involve replacing the speakers, which is an extra cost. I know this because a £300 Pioneer doesnt sound any better, BECAUSE of the speakers. So I know the sound which comes out is great, and I'm happy with it, its good. But what you're saying makes it sound like at this budget it shouldnt sound good and isnt worth it.

To the OP, get a cheapish head unit with an Aux in, what car do you have? chances are it will sound miles better than what you have already.

EDIT - Yes, expectations do come into it, but for £50 odd quid you'll get bang for your buck

Well when I compare my current HU with my mates Blaupunkt DAB jobby somethingorother which was about £250-300, it's on par. We both have active subs so the quality of bass is going to be much better too.

But i've still tried it without the use of a sub and still sounds very impressive for the money!

That's all I can say really. :)

i bought the ipod adapter on a well none auction site, goes straight into the mazda 6 stereo and it charges as it goes. also i can control it through the steering wheel. check it out you might find you can get one for the accord
