I've had enough, 10 cds in the car just isnt enough variety

now i've tried the silly tape adapter thing and u either have the volume wrong, or its hard to pick an album and keep your eyes on the road and you always forget to turn the ipod off and its dead by the time you drive home at night.. useless

so ipod interface it is, i didnt go for this idea originally because there was only one at the time the alpine kca 420 but now theres a couple im wondering if theres much of a difference or is the alpine still king

anyone have experience of the different units, do they charge the ipod? any major annoyances? im leaning towards pioneer but thats just brand preference and i tend to like the styling. i have stock speakers which arent too bad but probably not good enough to make too much of a fuss about sound quality so i've discounted that as a reason to go for alpine over the others. only other major point is that my HU/changer are sony. i doubt the HU will support an interface but with a new sony HU that does i could possibly keep the sony changer, not sure why i would but it might be handy

any helpful tips n advice are much appreciated :D

If you radio has an AUX-In jack, just use a phono-to-phono lead, and you're set.

Cheap as chips, and quality isn't too bad.

Think that one is the best for controlling the ipod, it is a lot quicker than the older ones and it is built in, so no seperate box. It also displays more information from the ipod in regards to track names etc.

Not a bad price either, the higher spec alpine units with this full speed ipod feature will be out in a month or two I think.

The original interfaces also display all the track names / albums / playlists etc :)

I've got the original separate box myself and I love it. It isn't the quickest when it comes to navigating around the ipod but it's easy and straight forward. You need your ipod to be organised though.

Best best is to go into you local Halfords and try it yourself, you can even take your own ipod in to plug in.

But can you search through artist, album, genre etc like the new unit can?

Genuine question as i want a higher end alpine unit, but I like the look of these fully integrated full speed units so am having to wait. Also they are phasing out the stupid glide-touch feature in this years high end models :)

Yer I tested the glide touch and it was **** imo so didn't go for it. Yer you can search via playlist, artist, album, song title.

You spin the volume dial on mine to scan through them all - what slows finding an album / playlist I find as I have SO many :p

EDIT - Do note that I've never used one of these new ones so can't compare...

No swearing. Read the FAQs

I use an Ipod with an ITrip as I have a fiesta with an integrated radio, which is annoying to replace with anything decent

Works well and not bad quality, no wires, no nothing, I have one of them chargers that plug into the ciggy lighter and are long and flexible, so I can have my mini held in the air facing me so I can change track, or album at the lights no problems

This will probably get deleted, but a great interface is the iTrip :D works fantastic in any car.

However it is illegal, so erm, not much else to say.

I had an itrip before I got mybuilt in system and I must say it was ****! :o Ok for £30 solution but I wouldn't call it great by any stretch of my imagination.

Oh and they're not illegal to buy/sell - only use ;)

Tis illegal cos it broadcasts radio frequency and other people can pick it up, but I can hardly see you going down for 2 years for using an Itrip, gonna keep using mine :)

If you get a pioneer (which are fab units btw - I've got a P77MP and love it - £100 mint 2nd hand off the bay of Es), you can quite cheaply do what I did and combine this:

and this:

I've even wired it up so it charges my ipod as well!
