Ipod music backup help

Hi

Need some help on music backup.

I have a ipod touch which I would like to backup the music to my new imac, I used to have all my music synced on my ipod and windows pc but I do not have the windows pc anymore.

So I really only have a copy of my music on the ipod which I don't like the sound of. It has a mixture of iTunes purchases and cd rips. Now I know iTunes purchases are not really a problem as iTunes keeps a history of that, I'm more concerned about the cd rips stored on my ipod.

If I were to connect my ipod to my new imac would it place a copy of my music onto the imac?

Basically I just want a copy of my ipod music library stored on the imac, including the cd rips, how do I go about this?

Thanks tried that, I can't see a backup option though. All I get is a tab that says transfer, unless it's the same thing.

I don't think it'll delete the original media.

Transfer a single song and then see if the original still exists.
