This is more for a family member really. I've never bothered with ipods so can't find the answer when I was having a quick mess earlier.

His old PC died, so he's got a new one. His ipod has all his tunes on it really. Put the new itunes on which we downloaded. Tried to sync the ipod and it says its mated to another library (old PC I'd assume) and to sync it to the new library will wipe whats on it already? Quite a few tunes to be honest... so a big no no to that.

Had a mooch about but can't find an option to ideally copy everything from the ipod to the new machine (actually copy the files over too) and resync to a new library.

Anyone able to tell me where I'm going wrong or what he should do/try next?

Thanks all :)

It's an 80 gig classic I think, I honestly don't know much about them.

He's just adament he wants to use itunes so I'm trying to find a solution for that only really :)

get the music off using something other than itunes, as suggested , then add it back into itunes library and use itunes from then on

Use latest version of winamp with the ipod plugin (http://www.mlipod.com/). It gives you access to all of the songs on the ipod/iphone and copy them to your hard drive. Then just need to copy them onto your new itunes and you are as good as new - no money paid.

easier way is if it allows you to access the drive as removable storage, enable view of hidden files and folders and you can see the songs that way, then just drag them into your music folder and re-import into itunes

Ive personally used a program called iPodUtil...worked well for me.

See if you can find it. It is a free program (unless you want to get the paid one) and it basically asks you every 100 or 50 songs if you want the paid version. All you have to do is click it and it will keep on copying them over. ;)
