The missus aint happy, the stupid bint, sorry, poor unfortunate soul has just realised she put her Nano (which I bought her  ) in the wash, And shock horror it no longer works. I have shaken all the water out, and will leave it upright to drain for a day or 2.

Anyone know what the chances of this working ever again are ? is there a way to crack them open and dry it out properly ?

Im just clutching at straws here I know but she is a little upset and im a little peed off but accidents happen.

Oh, its out of warrentee and Apple want £88 to repair what is now a £99 Nano, how fair :(

I remember reading on an ipod forum a year or so ago about this guy who put his nano through a washing machine, he left it to dry for 2days or so and when he turned it back on it worked!

I hope your missus one will too!

It continues to work but the LCD screen is shorted out, so no matter what the screen needs replacement - you might want to find a third-party repairman for that LCD, I'm sure there's LCD for nano in the bay...

Sorry to hear about your accident - scarily it is that small enough to forget it completely...

well after leaving it in the airing cuboard overhight stood up i plugged it in the USB this morning. It lit up and I thought evrything was OK, only to find that there is clearly water under the screen and no graphics on the display. Looks the the screen is goosed.

Oh well, ill leave it for another day or 2 and see what happens.

Failing that its her birthday in a few weeks so she will have to wait for a replacement until then, the new ones are supposed to be a lot better anyway I beleive.

Just thought I'll say...

I've got the new iPod nano 8GB
It's my first iPod and I've compared it to my friend's 1st gen, honestly, I think Apple made the right move to make the new iPod more mini, with aluminium casing and all.

I've not put any protection around it and it has no scratch from being used 3hrs aday for the past 2 weeks... I clean the screen daily when I'm at home with a simple specsavers glass cleaner.

The screen is also a lot brighter, tried it today under the sun, can see it clear as I see it at night.

My g/f mullerriced hers. . . . Got it working again thankfully.

Dried it out for a couple of days but it would not connect to the pc. The mullerrice had corroded the bottom connector, so sat with a paperclip for half an hour to clean the terminals. The top and bottom of the nano is glued on and can be prised off, but to get the damn thing out of the case is impossible without the correct tools. This is a new nano (8gb model). It did work again, but now has a lovely strawberry smell when its warm. It is possible to save them, but it has to be completely dried out.

Everyone should know that if you put something like that in water DON'T TURN IT ON until it's dry again. If you've turned it on and it hasn't worked then you've almost certainly killed it :(

Yeah, seeing if it worked when it came straight out of the machine could have in fact been what did the damage :(

While maybe not as tactfully phrased as it could have been ;) This comment is still correct. If electronics get water logged, a lot of the time any actual damage is caused by turning the device on whilst still wet, this is usually what blows circuitry etc.

So if she washes the new one, dont turn it on at all for two or so days :p

Although if its anything like a PDA in its action, it'll be perpetually "on" anyway with just the major subsystems (screen etc) turned off, so you wouldnt have been able to avoid any damage regardless.

So if we read the news with headlines along the line of "Wife found spun to a watery death in a washing machine", we'll know who did it... :D
