ipod not compatible with itunes on 2 different computers

i dont seem to be able to get my ipod to connect to my pc and my laptop.

does an ipod have compatibility issues or locked to one computer? im using vista 32bit on my laptop and windows 7 64 on my main rig and if i have it on my laptop, when i try and plug it in to my main rig it wants to restore.

no. basically when i plug the ipod in to my 2nd pc it tels me it cant connect and that it needs to restore it to its original state. im convinced its a issue with itunes when running different versions of windows but id like confirmation.
