10 year old daughter has asked for an iPod for Xmas - however, we have no apple tech in the home (preferring android) and so am unsure what to get her.

SHe wants to have apps, watch movies and play music, but i would prefer to keep her with android as i know what i am doing with that!

What's my solution?!

spoke to her a bot more and she is after a portable device that she can skype/chat her friends on as well as vids and music.

Still ipod touch?

iPod touch... or just iPhone??

You don't need to know anything about iOS... it's easy to get to grips with, easier than android... and works better.

Would she use whatsapp in and out of the house? If yes, then a smartphone (iphone or android) with a data plan is a must.

If she is happy only to use skype at home and to have internet / skype connection where there is wifi available, then ipod touch or even ipad mini 2 might be the best choices (from ios-devices).

Afaik there are not comparable android devices to ipod touch.

In tablet space there are lot of competitors assuming some very limited number of apps is enough.

Aside of you knowing your way around her stuff, why is it important that she has android? Personally just moved from android to ios and it is not like much has changes. I still have the icon grid to start apps and inside apps, things are very similar.

I'm not adverse to ios, it's just i have never used it. I'm also wary of the costs over android. My budget would be around max of £130 for a device.

Her brother didn't get a phone until he was 11, so i don't want her to have a phone just yet.

Thanks for the comments.

I have an ipod touch and use it primarily as my music device, I used to use iTunes for all my music needs but I find I just stream from Spotify on it now.

Do you have a Spotify sub? Im not sure but don't Spotify offer some sort of family sharing method.
Don't need an online connection either with offline playlists.

Fair point... but if you would be buying her a phone next year, then the ipod may not get used very much any more as it's likely the phone would do the same things, including an android one.

Might be worth saving in the long run and getting the phone now?

For that budget, the Tesco Hudl is well worth a look. For the price, it's a very decent budget tablet and does as much (if not more) than an iPod.
