Ok, i never use my hold button at the top, and today in car my friend used it while plugged into the car. When i got out i dropped it, now theres a padlock sign and the wheel/buttons don't work, is the padlock a sign for the hold button?

As it dropped it broke the button if thats causing the padlock as i theres a slight orange bit showing and it doesn't slide right across, i mean SLIGHT orange bit very small.

Basically my ipod is finished unless i can sort the button, if thats causing it?

The hold switch is there to prevent buttons controlling the iPod when accidently pressed. When swittched on a padlock sign appears and all buttons are disabled. When switched off there is no padlock, and all buttons operate as normal.

If the hold switch is damaged, it will prevent you from controlling your iPod. This is the most likely cause.

Chances of Apple replacing my ipod? .. Still under warranty.

Damn thats pretty crap, can't afford to buy a new one and i used it a lot :(

I may aswell try get it replaced by Apple, got nothing to lose :/

If you send it to Apple they might let it slide. I know CRC are very very picky over any slight dents in the casing, so if you return it through your retailer you may not get the outcome you want.

I bought it from an Apple store, in America will that cause any problems?

For anyone interested, i sent it back to Apple, and i will be getting a new iPod sent to me shortly :D

I've had them replace 2 faulty ipods within a month. They didn't ever ask what the problem was, just saw that it was faulty and got a brand new one within the working week.
