Ipod reset without mains power

Hi

I've just loaded the new ipod software update and it now needs to be plugged into the mains to complete the reset. Unfourtunatly I normally charge it of the PC and can't find the mains charger. Is there any way around this? Or am I going to have to buy a new charger?

Why would it need to be plugged in to the mains? Doesnt make sense. Maybe it's suggesting it just need charging.

It's so it can complete the flash without the risk of it failing due to power loss. I think you can just plug it into a USB port though and it will react the same way.

same thing happened to me with my old 4G...had to borrow a friends mains charger just to connect it to the power once, USB didnt work.

Yep USB doesn't work.

Had to buy a new charger £19!!!!!!!

It does seem stupid reboot process though!!!

i can see the point of it, as I guess running out of power during a firmware flash could leave you with a paperweight, and potentially cost apple a lot of money in replacements. However the newer ones come without a mains charger, so I assume they can be flashed using usb as a power source from a computer, so it would seem easy to make it the same for the older versions.

well the apples use a firewire > usb on the mains charger right. soo how would it be able to tell the power source :S
