iPod Ripping.

Hi.
Can someone recommend me a iPod ripping software to get music OFF my iPod and onto my computer?

Does the software in these progs, esp sharepod, mean you remove the apple firmware from the ipod or does that stay and can it still be updated as Apple improve the firmware?

Sharepod kept crashing for me.
But Yamipod appears to be working fine at the moment.

I did see that. "the programme is stored and run from your ipod"...Does that mean the firmware on the ipod is replaced with the third party software???
