Ipod Shuffle problem

I’m having some problems with a friends Ipod Shuffle, I have tried updating it and I have also tried factory resetting it but nothing seems to work, when I turn it on the green light comes on and then goes off. When I try and change track it flashes green and orange

Ah, have you made sure that there is any music that has been placed on the shuffle? I say this because on my shuffle if I have no music on it then it flashes and green like you have described in your post there.
