I'm on the hunt for a piece of shareware that can record audio from one of the earphones yet still playback music on the other earphone at the same time. Google doesn't seem to throw up any results, does anyone know if this actually exists??

Any help grateful

Regards
Ryan

I've just been imformed that there is apparently a piece of software (shareware) that can placed onto an ipod, this software then enables the ipod to record external sound from one earpiece whilst still playing audio out of the other earpiece.
So far i have found that linux can be placed on 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen ipods and then a piece of software can be used to record audio using BOTH the earphones as microphones, but not using ONE to record and the other to play audio.

They can actually. The construction of earphones and speakers is very similar to that of a dynamic microphone. It's not likely to give very good results though and seems an unusual thing to want to do. I have heard of people planting electret mics inside earphones and using those to make binaural recordings. What is your intention of using one earphone to record? Your not a spy or something are you  :p

Yes, to clear that up earphones can definately be used as microphones and the little in ear ones aren't to bad at the job and can clearly catch voice from a room.
I just thought it sounded like quite a cool hack, to have one recording and one playing.
