iPod Touch 2.1 Sound issue

Recently upgraded to 2.1 (from 1.1.2, yes I'm that lazy) and I noticed that now my sound distorts, ulmost stutters when changing the volume. It never did this is 1.1.2 it was a nice smooth change - has anyone else got this issue?

I do have random issues with sound stuttering when I press the sleep button - except that issue has been around since bloatastic firmware 2.0 for me. This is on my 16GB Touch v1.
