I did search, I couldn't find any relevant search results.
Whyyy are we being robbed again, when iPhone users get a free upgrade we have to pay? It is only a matter of £5, but that's not the point. Why can't it be free for everyone? $9.95 is a token amount for them in any case, what's the point?

Steve Jobs has explained many times why they do this. Dues to laws in the US they have to financially account for the Touch differently and this is why there is a charge. Because the iPhone is a subscription model they dont have to charge.

You want all the extra apps and functionality, then pay tbh. It's not like your iPod touch doesn't work and they are charging for an update. They are charging for software. Will you moan about having to pay for apps on the app store?

Still, £0.01 is 'charging' for an update. That's full of spin. The reason they charge a fiver for an update is because it makes great business sense to charge for a software update if people are willing to pay for it. People are willing to pay for it because they see it as worthy of their money. It's pretty sound business. I don't agree with it and wouldn't if I was an iPod Touch owner, but if people will pay, they can do what they like.

I guess Microsoft broke the law when they made the Zune 2.0 software available to the previous models then.

They charge for it because they can. Why would you give somthing away for free when you can charge for it. Retun to the real world people.

The accounting thing is just the excuise they gave and its a good one. Saying they "have to charge for accounting reasons", sounds way way way better than "were charging because were bigger than you, thus you have no choice to pay for it if you want it." If they really wanted to give it away for free they could have.

Where do you get the update from? The store in iTunes? theres no option for applications in mine, or am I jumping the gun and it won't be there till friday?
and do you need the latest iTunes version? cuz I'm not using the latest? (using the 1 before the latest)

You'll need iTunes 7.7 which will be available on the 11th, and also 2.0 software which will be available on the Apple Software Update also on the 11th.

Ahhh cheers :-) I shall do all my updates that day then :-D
Is there any preview of the applications coming out?
