Hi Guys,

After having my heart set on an iPhone I have gone off the idea now, paying over £180 an then having an 18month contract of over £30 is not a very good idea for me so thinking of the iPod Touch instead!

I've seeked reviews on the web but feel I'll get the best opinion from you lot.

Instead of me asking for general comments, I'll just put my general questions in points below. If anyone could answer that would be great :)

- Is there due to be a new Touch anytime soon to follow the new iPhone?
- Is it worth therefore splashing out on a 32gb Touch?
- What is the web browsing like? I'm going to be using the Touch a lot when going to America in a couple of months just to send emails, check on here, news, the usual :) I presume and may sound like a dumb question, the browser is wi-fi based?
- Battery life, what's it like? 10 hr trip to New York, I'd like to stick some films on it, how long will it last me?
- Screen quality, a lot say the iPhone is a lot better quality wise, how come?
- I'd be using sennheiser x300's with the Touch, will this be adequte for listening to music?

Think that's the main questions out of the way, if anyone else has anything I should know, please tell!

possibly.. Apple have recently bulk ordered a load of flash chips, suggesting some up coming releases (either that, or just stocking up for the new iPhones). Also the 'back to school' period is a time when Apple usually bring out new iPods etc...

- Is it worth therefore splashing out on a 32gb Touch?
I personally wouldn't pay the asking price for the 32GB... up to you though...

- What is the web browsing like? I'm going to be using the Touch a lot when going to America in a couple of months just to send emails, check on here, news, the usual :) I presume and may sound like a dumb question, the browser is wi-fi based?
Browser will use the WiFi connection, correct. Uses Safari and is actually quite pleasant to use.

- Battery life, what's it like? 10 hr trip to New York, I'd like to stick some films on it, how long will it last me?
Not sure on that :P

- Screen quality, a lot say the iPhone is a lot better quality wise, how come?
Uses the same screen i believe... so any differences are most likely a placebo effect... need that clarified though (only difference im aware of, is the new 3G iPhone, they tweaked the colour temp, making it more yellowy than the previous... which was then changed back with a firmware update i think? (or will be)

- I'd be using sennheiser x300's with the Touch, will this be adequte for listening to music?
Yup, fine...

Think that's the main questions out of the way, if anyone else has anything I should know, please tell!

Thanks for the answers, any reason why you wouldn't buy the 32gb model? I have over 20gb worth of music, then with me wanting to copy films, pictures across, it seems worth while going for that one.

You wont get 10 hours of movies out of your touch, but a mix of movies and music is no problem.

Id expect a price drop / capacity changes some time in the near future. Mac Rumors says updates soon, but i doubt there will be for a little while until the iPhone has calmed down as they use a lot of the same conponents.

You would save a bunch if you bougth your ipod in the US but then you would'nt have it for the trip. Unless you have a laptop.

Id personally get the 16GB again with such a small music collection. I have a 16GB and i have no problems and my music collection is 5 times bigger than yours. I just make multiple playlists in iTunes and swap them arround every week or so to keep it fresh. Really easy to do once its all setup.

Just too expensive tbh

Plus you'll end up saving around £50 if you get the 32GB from the States (assuming you can have it shipped via a friend, and avoid import duty... which i guess is "really naughty")

Just got my touch this morning...

Cant keep off it, especially with all the new apps, the remote app is amazing :p never had so much fun flicking through my music laid on the other side of the room :)

I'll be getting an iphone next year when my contract runs out so this was like a taster.

All i can say is you need to get one :p

How much did it cost you and what size?

I got the 32GB one.

Screen is identical to my mates iphone V1.

I can watch about 5 hours of video on it.

Wifi absolutely kills the battery.

Use wifi a lot for browsing in cafe's and checking my imap and gmail emails.

Wouldn't be without it now as it's so useful.

I easily filled the 32GB. 20GB music, the rest films and TV series.

No need for screen protectors, but I do use an apple sock to protect the back when it's in my pocket. Why ruin the slimness and ergonomics by sticking it in a case?

I dont even bother with a case, the screen really dont scratch easy. Same cant be said for the back but it really dont matter. Your not ment to look at that bit.

You will love it andy, i have mine in a Griffin leather case that comes with a screen protector but ive gotta say the screen really is quite tough anyway

I'm using my as we speak. Keypad is a bit hard to get used to, but I've got used to it already and ive had it for less than a day :p

I love it can't wait for more apps. Also is there any way I could get my uni email on it?

Like any uni we have to log into their network then open outlook through desktop anywhere type thing

Having album art is a must like :p

No uni I know do it like that. They all use imap accounts that work with any webmail imap client or regular imap clients.

Just get your imap server details and bung them into the ipod touch "Other" email account
