iPod Touch keeps failing to restore

Hi my sister's ipod touch doesn't seem to be working after she purchased the latest firmware revision from iTunes and it's been stowed upon me to fix it

It throws up a few errors after the restore process has been started, i googled these and it just said to restart the mobile service and to try a different usb port. This didn't fix anything.

Is there anything im missing, do i need to manually download a firmware or nothing as i see nothing in iTunes?

Have you got the most recent version of iTunes as this can casue a problem. - what OS?

Windows 7. I fixed it now, only way i could work out how to fix it was to obtain a copy of the 3.1 .ipsw since you can only get it through iTunes and i don't have an account.

How ridiculous is that, atleast it's all working now
