Tempted to get an iPod Touch but what's the likelihood of a new version being out soon? Obviously don't want to buy one and find another is coming out around the corner.

Only going to get those apps though if I buy from Apple direct, old stock which is cheaper elsewhere wont have them will they?

They shouldn't, but buying from them is usually £13 cheaper than Apple, so essentially, you're getting the same stuff, except the hassle to download these "extra" but on the other hand, save time waiting for Apple to deliver to your door.

The next iPhone is due "Late 2008" so it's likely the iPod Touch will work on the same scale.

My guess is added apps, and bigger storage capacity for both :)

Have read on macrumors.com that they are expecting a new ipod touch announcement in July and possible product by the end of 2008.

I'm holding out because I have a 5th gen 60gig on it's last legs and need 60gigs of storage. That said the cost of 60gigs of flash memory is going to be quite prolific and I can't see apple upping the capacity, that much, for gen2 or 3 (sadly).

60GB SSD? No.

32GB SSD? Yes.

You don't NEED 60GB. Just create a smart playlist to manage it all for you.

Apple could drop flash memory in favour of a hard drive based device. I would certainly buy a slightly thicker 80GB+ Touch with a HD.

There are times when I need my entire music library with me - A holiday for example.

I like having all my music in one place and I travel and work away from home a lot! My current 5th gen gets used everyday and I very rarely play the same stuff twice. If I did get a smaller capacity ipod then I'd end up carrying round both and that is just a luxury I shouldn't be shelling out on. As good as the touch is, and as much as I like it.

They won't switch to a HDD because that would require making the battery far bigger and increase it's power consumption. Something they can't afford to do on the iphone or touch.

The touch needs to be kept small so can't go for a bigger hard drive-based version. They only released it in November so an update three months later? No chance. Maybe a 32GB version, but at the earliest late this year. The 8GB version is fine for me because I don't care much for having all my music with me, and it still holds more than enough.
Look how much the 64gb option is for the Air for a start - $599 optional extra!!!!!!!!
£639 extra, actually.
