iPod Touch question

Currently I don't have a media player of any sort, but recently I have been wanting to listen to music on the go so have been thinking a lot about buying an iPod Touch 32GB for music, the odd video and some apps, and since my phone is just a phone (and not a smart phone) I though the touch would be the best choice.

My question is, Apple seem to come out with new stuff at least once a year, and according to wikipedia it seems each touch generation was annouced in september, so if I was to buy a touch now, would it be outdated in just a few months? I don't mind buying a touch now if people expect apple to just add small stuff like a camera or bigger capacity, but if they next touch is expected to be higher performance/better screen/cheaper then that is something I want to hold out for.

So what is the general thought among the apple crowd, will the next touch annoucement be big and worth holding out for?

Had my 32GB 2G since launch, the 3G doesn't offer anything new (it was even worse than the 2G for battery life) and I doubt the 4G will either.

Didn't the 3G have better RAM, CPU and GPU than that 2G, the same upgrade that the iPhone 3GS got according to wikipedia, which would account for less battery life.

Do apple sell the new products when they are annouced or does it take several months for them to enter stores, and then another few months to make it across to the UK?
