After looking all over the net for good method's to remove scratches from the back of an iPod Touch (2nd Gen in this case) Saw method's from banana skin to toothpaste!
I finally found something which worked, is cheap and simple to do.
The product is called 'Autosol - Metal Polish'. This stuff is normally used on chrome bike parts and cookers for removing rust and protection.
The tube (That I've used barely a 20th of) was £2.99 on the bay including shipping.
All you need to do is put a pea sized blob on a lint free cloth, work it in with some circle motions. Leave it for a bit and buff it off with another lint free cloth. Rinse and repeat as many times as needed (In my case 8times) You could use an electric buffer with a large soft end but I was quite worried about heat generated so I stuck with elbow grease
Took a couple of before and after pictures, unfortunately I only had my iPhone to hand but I can assure you the results are amazing.

Hope this helps someone, took me days of research to find something suitable. I'm very happy with the results.
