Hi Guys,

My friend has a Linksys WRT54GS router and serveral iPod Touch's setup to use wireless internet. Now he was having problems with his PS3 and he didn't know the Linksys setup page login info with all the default ones not working, so I reset it to factory defaults using the button on the back. I then flashed the firmware to the latest version which resolved the PS3 problems. The issue now is that I cannot for the life of me get the wireless internet to work on this iPod Touch. It often connects but I can't get data to transfer and therefore the internet to work.

Does anyone have a Touch or even an iPhone working wirelessly with a Linksys router that might be able to help with settings?

He is currently running an old version of the Apple firmware (2.2.1 I think) but as it was working previously I don't think that is an issue.

I have tried all the usual suspects with SSID set to On, Mac Filtering to Off, security Off etc. Most of the time when I try to access the internet it says that it isn't connected, I have had it connected but not sent any data. This was done by messing about with the Router IP and DNS IP set to 192.168.1.1

It seems to have problems getting the automatic IP and other info from the router and when it does it sets itself up as IP: 169.254.227.94 and subnet of 255.255.0.0 with the rest blank. From what I read this implies that the DHCP server hasn't issued an IP address to the iPod Touch. I know for a fact the DHCP server is enabled so any suggestions or help would be great!

Thanks,

Mark

On the router? It is a cable router with Virgin as the broadband supplier, so I don't think this is required as there is a separate modem.

If the iPod is set to automatically connect to the network, have you tried making it forget the network details and starting again? (Tap the blue arrow next to the network, then tap 'forget'.)

Might be able to help you tomorrow its a little late tonight. Im using tomato 1.27 on my linksys however.

Using virgin and also have iphone with lots of different devices, but no ps3.

It is set to automatically connect and I have tried the forget network settings several times with no luck.

Sounds good, thanks.

I have the same issue though my tomato f/w is way old, just manually specify the IP, subnet and router/dns using the static option on the touch.

log in to router check mac addresses, often have small niggles linksys n model here usually just renew and it connects maybe 2 times a week once a month mini mac does same, but looking at router stats its gives it ip address.

common problem not just to a linksys setup more a v3 software on ipod/iphones

Well Wireless MAC Filter was disabled, I did however try enabling it with "Prevent PCs listed below from accessing the wireless network." but that didn't help. You mention v3 software on ipod and iphones but it is running 2.2.1 as mentioned in the opening post.

Indeed, I tried that but it didn't work, wasn't sure if I was putting in the right details however so maybe someone can clarify. From the apple site here is the example picture:

Now obviously I select Static IP and pick a free IP address like for example 192.168.1.115 but where do I source the other info?

Under the Setup page it lists the Router IP as 192.168.1.1 and the Subnet as 255.255.255.0. But under the status page the details are different, with the Subnet as 255.255.252.0, the DNS1: 194.168.4.100 and DNS2: 194.168.8.100 along with different details for the Router IP, there is also Gateway and Internet IP (from the modem I'm guessing) listed.

Can someone who is using the Static IP option on a Touch or iPhone with a Linksys router tell me what works and where to source the info from.

Thanks!

If you're already flashing the firmware, and it's a compatible model, slap Tomato on there. It's cleaner and better than the standard Linksys firmware.

I use my iPhone's WiFi with my Linksys WRT54GL running Tomato, auto everything (DHCP) and it's always been perfect.

There is a higher FW version of Linksys on the USA site, but not sure if it will work with Hardware Version 5.1. Here's my post on the Linksys Forums to explain what I mean:

http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=162460

People have reported that this fixed the issue I'm having, just don't really want to brick his router if the USA Linksys FW isn't compatible.

Hmm, doesn't look like Tomato will work: "This will not work on Linksys WRT54G/GS v5 or newer WRT54G/GS routers."

Going over later to give it another go so can anyone answer this?
