I have a 2nd gen ipod nano but the volume is pathetic on it, I can barely hear it when i walk around campus and its down right annoying.

Is there anyway I can unlock it or increase the volume of my songs? I tried the sound check in itunes but it just lowered the volume on everything

You're either deaf or you have a problem with the iPod. I usually have mine set to a bout 1/4 of the maximum volume going upto about 1/2 in a noisy place.

This is what I'm on about by the way, looks slightly different on the 2G nano, this was taken on my 3G nano but the setting is present on the 2G.

I have the same problem with my 2nd gen ipod nano. Volume is set to highest yet I can barely hear it when connected into my electric drum kit.

Using my 1st gen nano with the same song, same volume (maximized) and I can hear it fine (as in I can hear the volume of the music without resorting to turning the drums up as well). Both are UK spec nanos.

If anyone has any idea on how to increase the volume on the 2nd gen, it'd be greatly appreciated!

I wouldn't listen to a song at max volume for too long, if you want to preserve your hearing

I don't mean it like this, thankfully.

I already have tinnitus in my ears from drums/gigs/motorbike so I know all to well the 'dangers' off having the music up too loud.

What I meant was this:

When listening to music on a day-to-day basis with earphones, I would have the volume around 60-70% as I don't want to wreck my hearing any further! My problem is that when I connect the 2nd gen nano into my electric drum kit, even with the volume at 100%, it can only be heard if I turn the Master Volume up (which will also include the volume of the drums so is generally a no no).

The 1st gen nano with the same songs at 100% could be heard fine, with the drums at an appropriate level too. I hope that makes some sense....

If anyone knows how to pump the volume on the 2nd gen please tell!

You could adjust the volume of the song via iTunes:
