is there any other devices that are the same size, weight, and functions as an iPod but have a bigger screen and/or are cheaper?

i'm tempted to buy one myself as i have CD's laying about in my car , though i dont have a connector for the basic system in the Corsa :/ is it worth going flat out and getting a 60gig one ? :)

When I first got my 20GB iPod I had about 200 songs. I have since broken that iPod and have around 2234 songs. I didn't expect that to happen, my addiction took over my wallet. :(

Anyway, back on topic, on the gadget show the other day.. (Clicky.) They tested the new Nano against some other mp3 players, namely the Sandisk Sansa e260 and Samsung YP-Z5. You may want to check them out, but I don't know if you wanted bigger than a iPod video screen or Nano. :)

If you want bigger than the video theres always the Archos portable video and audio players.

Don't actually know the size of the iPod screens, perhaps I should have looked.

But, aswell as them lot theres ye old Creative Zen and suchlike.

I really only want it to watch videos on the move, is the archos 404 a similar size to the ipod?

iPod video 30GB.
* Height: 4.1 inches
* Width: 2.4 inches
* Depth: 0.43 inch
* Weight: 4.8 ounces

iPod video 80GB.
* Height: 4.1 inches
* Width: 2.4 inches
* Depth: 0.55 inch
* Weight: 5.5 ounces

Archos 404.
Approx. 100 x 78 x 15 mm – 3.9” x 3” x 0.59”
Approx. 190 gr. - 6.75 oz

Archos has the bigger screen aswell.

Archos:
3.5'' TFT (320X240 pixels) 4/3, over 16 million colors

iPod:
# 2.5-inch (diagonal) QVGA transflective, over 65,000-color liquid crystal display with white LED backlight
# 320 by 240 pixel resolution, .156-mm dot pitch
# Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

Sorry for the quote-fest, seemed like the best way to get facts across. :)

Also, 30GB iPod has slightly less video playing battery life than the Archos (3.5 hours and 4 hours respectively), but the 80GB iPod has 6.5 hours when fully charged.

So, they're pretty feature balanced, iPod can play some new funkeh games, Archos has a bigger screen.

My advice would be to visit a popular chain of recently renamed stores to test the sound quality and to see them in the flesh to get a good idea of what they both are.
