IPS or 120hz......

I'm in the same exact boat right now. I'm not much of a gamer anymore where a 1ms discrepancy can make the difference between losing or winning a nice prize at a LAN party. The only FPS I'm looking forward to is BF3 and that's no near as fast paced as competitive CSS/CoD2. I'm more looking forward to playing Diablo 3, any new WoW expansion, ES5 etc. Games that I would prefer to look pretty than play smooth. Games that don't need the responsiveness a competitive FPS player would need.

I'm going to check out the BenQ XL2410T tomorrow to see if 120Hz is really all it's cracked up to me. If not, the Dell U2412M it is. Reading PCM's article right now, love his website.

Bf3 is a competitive fps game.
called teamwork.

Competitive =/= fast paced. Granny racing could be competitive, but it wouldn't be very fast paced. You can't compare the pace of any Battlefield (huge maps etc) to a game like CSS where every map is full of choke points and split second reactions are everything.

I don't care how excellent a monitor looks or how superb its color reproduction is on the eye, after using a 120Hz screen i doubt i would use a 60Hz screen again. I'm old school CRT gamer, i just prefer the smoothness of higher Hz screens and something as simple and basic as as an asus 120Hz screen i use gives me back that old school gaming feel, just need the old school game development back haha :D, oh, and screen tearing in fast or slow paced shooters is still there with 120Hz screens, lol.

Yeah definitely - for example if you make a quick 180 degree turn in an fps game, on your average 60Hz panel theres a moment where the image is blurry and it takes a moment to stabalise, if you come straight from a CRT to a TFT this is very nasty, but if you've used a TFT for awhile your brain automatically compensates and you stop noticing - however you also take slightly longer to react to the change in the scene... move to a decent 120Hz panel and that moment where its all blurry is less of a problem almost to the point of non-existant and you play much better, slightly quicker to react, slightly more accurate reactions to the game, its a relatively small difference, quite subtle but atleast in my case swapping between 60Hz and 120Hz panels consistantly theres a significant increase to my KDR and a big reduction in the number of times I've thought "I should have made that shot" when I've not quite managed to make a shot.

I cant wait till were able to get rid of the consciousness lag. That half a second delay before I'm aware of something really kills my KDR.
