Hi All,im torn between the Asus MG279Q and the Asus MG278Q,the money difference is not a problem i know the 279Q is a IPS display with a 4ms response time, and the 278Q uses an older TN display but with a 1ms rt..I own a R9 390 and play games like GTA 5 Witcher 3,Far cry 4,Fallout 4 Divinity Original sin Falcon 4 BMS ..it will be mostly used for gaming..i currently own a Iiyama prolite B2409HDS..would both of the above monitors be a big step up on what i currently own,Many thanks for any replies and a Merry Christmas to you all :)

Colours will be similar. As will contrast.

Responsiveness will be better on the TN.

Viewing angles will be better on the IPS.

X-factor for me is IPS glow ... most of these cheap 'gaming' IPS panels seem to have it really badly. Some people aren't bothered, others are. I find it appalling. Also, a lot of screens with these IPS panels seem to have epic bleed.

If you're willing to persist and send one or some units back, you might end up with a better product with the IPS ... but you're much more likely to get a decently acceptable unit on first try with the TN.

Depends on your priorities. If you decide on the TN, you should also look at the BenQ equivalent and the Eizo too if that's out soon enough.

Colours are far superior on IPS

You wont notice anything regarding response times, from 1ms TN to 4ms IPS if you notice 0.003 seconds difference you wont be from this planet

Viewing angles are far superior on IPS

No comical veritical colour shift on IPS. If you look at red on the center of the screen it will still be the same red at the top of the screen.

Glow is largely irrelevant on IPS. Yes its there but nothing at all to worry about imho.

Bleed is what lets down IPS over TN. In dark scenes in games, movies etc you will notice it wherever the bleed is on the monitor you buy. However, the issues with bleed though is not with IPS technology, this is a manufacturing/QC process that is failing pretty badly.

Do you game and only game with very very little else ? TN would be ok.

Thanks guys i mostly only game Lambchop,id say 70% gaming the rest browsing on websites posting on forums etc..i never watch movies on my rig i stream to my tv cheers

IPS and TN fanboys are worse than Nvidia and AMD fanboys.

I doubt your will get a straight answer to be honest. Probably better off just looking at the downsides of each and deciding what is most important to you (or see both but thats not going to happen I guess)

Recently converted to TN fanboy here, I have an IPS and TN (ROG Swift) next to each other and I find IPS glow / backlight bleed a far bigger problem than gamma shift. The colours are the same with proper set up and viewing angles are only an issue on solid colours, for gaming its totally unnoticeable.
