Hi Guys

I know this a bit of a hardware question but i'm looking for some advice from gamers.
I'm currently torn between 2 monitors: Benq XL2411T & Dell U2412M

The dell is an IPS Monitor while the BenQ is a pure gaming TN Panel.
I'm guessing the majority of you will tell me the BenQ is the one to go for but my gaming habits maybe only take up 50% of my time on the PC and i only really play one FPS - BF3 soon to be BF4 so maybe an IPS would suit be better, i also like the sound of 16.10 rather than 16.9

So do any of you guys play FPS's on IPS screens such as the dell and is it any good if it's not then is the BenQ the best 24" TN i can get?

Appreciate any advice.

Monitor forum would be the best place to ask, there's a lot of topics similar to this, so you may be able to get a good answer from there.

Tons of gamers use an IPS screen. TN is pretty cack in comparison. Additional resolution is also handy for non-gaming use.

The high refresh rate of the BenQ is something that some gamers desire though personally I would say that the losses with regards to res, colour quality and viewing angles are not in any way made up for by the better refresh rate. Perhaps if 3d really matters to you it could be worth it...

I Went to 120hz and now i would never go back, the difference is just too big even for everyday use.

I have done but someone suggested i ask gamers to see if any gamers do use an ips screen

You'll get mixed views. Some swear by 120Hz (Or 144Hz), some enjoy IPS.

It's worth noting, that to get the fullest from a panel with a high refresh rate it will take a lot more GPU horsepower in some cases, compared to the IPS' slightly larger res screen.

As per the poster above you will get mixed views on it.

I would never go back to a non 120Hz panel for FPS gaming if I had any choice in the matter at all but I ended up running 2 panels side by side one actually PLS the other a 120Hz TN so as to get the best of both.

your probably right, to be honest all i've read is mixed reviews wherever you look on the web. One mans best monitor is another's nightmare.

I think what i will do i purchase one and see how i get on, lets say i purchase the dell IPS and i either hate the anti glare coating or i find it's mince on BF3 how are overclockers at accepting returns?

Oh and my graphics card is a msi twin frozr 3 570 which up until now has been good enough on 1920x1080, would it be good enough for either monitor i listed?

I have one of the korean PLS screens and can run it at 100Hz, 27" 1440p and cost about the same as the ones in the OP.

I have a 120 screen, to be honest i cant really see the difference with my old TN. I spose if my system was a bit more borderline i might notice but meh.

Cheers again guys but i just can't make up my mind between the dell and the Benq.

I feel the Dell would be better for 85% of things i do, but i would be annoyed to hell if BF4 ghosted and lagged.

Anyone out there actually got either the dell u2412M or the BenQ2411T?

You're not going to get ghosting on noticeable input lag. The days of LCDs being that bad for gaming are long gone.

I'm on a Hazro 1440p 60hz panel and there is no detectable input lag. I've played my fair share of twitch shooters (which the Battlefield series is definitely slower-paced than) so it's not like I can't perceive the difference :)

I hope your right Frenchie as the dell is my preferred option mainly because of the higher resolution and the fact the stand lowers to virtually the base something the BenQ doesn't do i believe.(correct me if i'm wrong)

There's also the issue of the over aggressive anti glare on the dell but as people have said you really have to see it for yourself to judge.

I have read various reviews and opinions and after a while it all just starts to make no sense what so ever, for example people have stated about the dell - pro's - amazing vibrant colours, con's - bad anti glare coating makes everything grey and dull.............all in the same review, surely there's a conflict there.

My current monitor is a samsung syncmaster B2230, i assume it's 60hz and about 5ms response time and i have never notice anything sluggish from that so if the dell can match that i'd be delighted.

The benq 11t has horrible colours out of the box. Even after calibrating mine with a spider3 it was horrible. Had it about 3 months before I caved in and bought an overclockable 1440p PLS screen from Korea which is running at 96hz at the moment. Don't think I could go back to 1080p now and the colours are stunning! It does have some pretty bad backlight bleed around the edges though which is a bit of a bummer.

If I had the choice between a 60hz IPS and that benQ i'd pick the IPS every time. My previous alienware 120hz had fantastic colours though and that was a TN so they're not all bad, it had terrible ghosting in 3D though.

Seems like I cant win with monitors. :(

One thing that might be worth doing is visiting a high street shop to try and see the Dell in action. You won't be able to judge everything (doubt you'll get any games on there and it will likely be terribly calibrated) but you can judge things like anti-glare and the like.

From all accounts, the overclockable monitor imports are decent so that could also be an option. Quite a bit cheaper but you obviously lose out on the great support that Dell offer with their monitors.

Good to hear from someone that has had recent experience with similar (to both) monitors :)
