IPS/TN Gaming

You're not going to get ghosting on noticeable input lag. The days of LCDs being that bad for gaming are long gone.

I'm on a Hazro 1440p 60hz panel and there is no detectable input lag. I've played my fair share of twitch shooters (which the Battlefield series is definitely slower-paced than) so it's not like I can't perceive the difference :)

I'd have to partially disagree while its a much small number these days theres definitely some modern panels which have noticeable input latency if your doing FPS gaming. (I've played with a few Dells that out the box its fairly nasty but enabling gaming mode does bring it down to okish tho still not ideal levels).

The benq 11t has horrible colours out of the box. Even after calibrating mine with a spider3 it was horrible. Had it about 3 months before I caved in and bought an overclockable 1440p PLS screen from Korea which is running at 96hz at the moment. Don't think I could go back to 1080p now and the colours are stunning! It does have some pretty bad backlight bleed around the edges though which is a bit of a bummer.

If I had the choice between a 60hz IPS and that benQ i'd pick the IPS every time. My previous alienware 120hz had fantastic colours though and that was a TN so they're not all bad, it had terrible ghosting in 3D though.

Seems like I cant win with monitors. :(

I was hoping the 11t was a bit better in that regard, the 20t I've never been happy about color wise (likewise its been calibrated with an external dongle) and its only because I use it purely for gaming and have another panel beside it for all other uses that I've kept mine but I've used various other 120Hz panels and had a Samsung one before this that have had colors that I can atleast live with even if they aren't ideal. Unfortunatly given the option of the BenQ or a 60Hz IPS I'd have to stick with the BenQ as for gaming there just isn't any way I could go back to anything less.

To be fair I have heard one or two horror stories but those seem to be the exception rather than the norm (as compared to the early days of LCD when moving from CRT was a nightmare for gaming).

Your situation is slightly different to the OP's as, as you've said, you have two monitors both used for specific purposes and both tailored for that purpose. Personally I could never go back to a TN panel for general purpose due to the hideous colour and viewing angles. I can, however, deal with 60hz vs 120hz. In a perfect world I'd have 120hz and a non-TN panel with zero backlight bleed... Sadly I don't live in an ideal world though.

edit: Additionally, the OP is currently on a 60hz panel and doesn't find it bad for gaming. As long as the Dell isn't a step backwards from that in regards to responsiveness I think it's safe to say that they will notice and appreciate the vibrancy and viewing angle upgrade as much as, or more than, the difference in responsiveness.

@OP if you're someone who will crank up graphics settings to make it look nice at the expense of some smoothness, get the Dell. If you're used to playing games at 60 Hz, that's fine.

In most FPSs I play my preference is smoothness and visual clarity, so I lower all intensive graphic settings and textures until I never go below 120 FPS. If you treat games the same way, I'd consider the BenQ.

Excellent replies guys, really appreciate it.

Yeah i game on a 60hz just now and it seems absolutely fine. Thing is enjoy Battlefield (3 not as much as 2142) but i'm not really that good at it, it's not like i'm some ubber 18 year old kicking everyones ass, i'm twice that age and usually mid table scoring...on a good day :)

If i can ask a further question then. The dell i intent to test out but if the BenQ is not that great is there a better TN option out there?
