Here is my problem, I have a desktop running Windows 7 home premium 64bit and a Samsung N140 netbook running Windows 7 home premium 32bit.
I set up a homegroup on the desktop and attempted to join it with the netbook so I could share the USB printer, after entering the password from the desktop homegroup into the netbook set up it says it cannot join.
So I read several how-to's on various forums and found out that on the desktop IPv6 was disabled, but it has a tick in the box for it under properties and the only option is to install or uninstall, no enable option.
Am I missing the obvious, or is this a common problem.
Any help will be much appreciated.

IPv6 is installed as default for Vista and W7 and will use it if it's available.

When you run an ipconfig does the NIC have an IPv6 address assigned to it ?

The router is only 6 months old and is a Belkin with wireless N, but the main desktop is connected by a cable not wireless.

If I were you I would do it the (slightly) old-fashioned way. Give them the same workgroup name and then you should be able to access the other computer through network places and add the USB printer.

EDIT: In fact, just remembered, for 7 you shouldn't even have to change the workgroup names. Just make sure each of your computers has network discovery enabled and you should be able to see them.

Had another go today, and have finally found out how to get teredo enabled and IPv6 working, and it still will not let me join the homegroup from my netbook.
Alyhough IPv6 is now enabled, in ipconfig it is showing IPv4 as default, any one got any ideas how to make IPv6 the default.
Network discovery is enabled and sharing center is set to home.

I don't understand why you need IPv6 for this to work.

Just click Start and type Network and hit enter. If both your computers have network discovery enabled you should be able to see the other computer. If not try making sure file and printer sharing is enabled in advanced Homegroup settings.

Try going to Start -> Run and type \\<computer name>

And it should then list all the printers and devices shared on there. Double click the printer for it to connect to it and auto install drivers etc.

I gave up with Homegroup then one day it started working :S.

p.s. IPv6 isnt required and Ive only seen it on new Cisco gear and even then we arnt using it yet.

In the end I did it the old fashioned way and it is now working.
Still I have learned something new.
Thanks to all for the suggestions.
