iRacing worth the money

I will be keeping an eye on this thread as I have been thinking to myself the same question.

Yeah I think you get a couple of each to start you off not sure the exact amount then you have to pay for extra on top. Spent a fortune on all the project cars packs getting them all but that didn’t need a subscription!

Yeah it does....glad I never pushed the button lol

16 cars and 15 tracks to start off with, and I assume after that you have to pay more , think I'll stick to rFactors and PCs/PCs 2

If you’re a hardcore sim racer who wants to race online in an environment that aims to simulate how real motorsport unfolds then yes it’s easily worth it as it’s by far the best overall product in the genre and will probably consolidate that title even further when AI is released later this year.

It costs a lot though, and it’s userbase is for the most part as hardcore as you’ll find in gaming. I own 100% content and must have spent well over £1500 on the service in the 10 years I’ve been there, don’t regret one single penny as no other sim comes close to offering what iRacing does.

To sum up it’s good value if you view sim racing as a hobby and an alternative to real life racing, bad value if you’re a bit more casual minded and see it as just another game to waste some time on (you’d be better off going down the Assetto Corsa etc route if that’s the case).

Hi guys tbh i don't think that iracing is worth the cash, i would buy a few other driving sims and go and join race department for a tenner.

The base content will allow you to race in the Rookie series and that's about it. Some of the base content cars and tracks will allow you to race in higher race series, but only on certain weeks and they are few and far between. If you do take the plunge I suggest being very careful with car purchases. Lots of series don't very high participation and so don't go official and when they do then it's only the dedicated hardcore fans of the series that race.

Although the cost of entry means that you do get cleaner races, there are still plenty of idiots to ruin your race. You won't get some one deliberately driving the wrong way, but you'll encounter nearly all the other stupid things people do in public server racing games.

I've been a member since 2011 and there are a lot of things the service does well. But there is always more effort put into rolling out new content to sell rather than fixing issues that have been around for years.

I suggest searching for free month sub codes or 3 month discount subs before committing fully. Also bear in mind that without an active subscription you have no access to any content you have previously bought, not even to practice offline. You don't even have access to the forum without and active subscription.

It's expensive yes, but if your serious about Online competitive racing then for me it's worth it. You can get it for less than that for a year by using the offers they put on a couple of items a year. Planning ahead with car and track choices and you will also save a bit. If your the sim racer that likes to jump into a few random races every now and again then i would say don't get it but you what to try compete in a virtual racing career then this is your best option.

No it's not worth it. Spent three months driving it and the one problem I have with it is there's about 5K active players when am on meaning often 80% of the series never go official. So even though you like the look of a series it's unlikely going to be popular. Iracing is Nascar simulator

BES, IMSA, Skippy Barber are all really popular, yes you might not get a official race if your racing a stupid time. I'll agree there's a number of dead series they need to cut, they only go official maybe one or two times a week when the community organises a race or its SOF. If you live in the UK then racing in the evening will mean you will go official 95% of the time unless your picking a series like V8 where it only gets active in AUS times or a previously mentioned dead series like the Lotus 78 or Radical.

I've posted this in AC thread, but might as well leave it here too. Current real life Aston Martin Racing driver compares 3 simulators - iRacing, AC and Raceroom
