Iran why...

Went for two weeks in 2017. Got security advice from work, which said fine to go but don’t lie to border security, police etc because you have no reason to. Was with a touring company entire time aside from the odd ‘free day’.

Would obviously not go now, since then the whole hostage diplomacy thing has become full swing…because it works. Popped into Russia for a day but same thing, wouldn’t set foot for no money.

Still annoys me work send the odd high level American global manager to HK for no proper reason and if some generic Samsung burner phone is going to protect them.

I was sceptical if the level of hospitality wasn't actually made up tbh.

To be fair the small number of Iranians I've met in person have been hospitable and fun loving people, good to hang out with - pretty consistent with the video. Worked with a small number and there was a Iranian guy (living in Michigan) who was in the Quake 3 clan I played for.

How so? Genuinely curious

Edit; In response to the OP, I personally wouldn’t go near anywhere in the middle east, just doesn’t appeal, not even Egypt.

I met some lovely people there that completely changed my perception following them being absolutely destroyed economically and politically by Sadam Hussein.

Some of the landscape is amazing (especially towards the Kurdish part ) but the biggest thing is the people. I just found them absolutely fantastic, warm, welcoming cultured, interesting, wnd interested in other people.

the reason why I have been there is because my sister works out there. I wouldn't have thought about it otherwise.

Not that Iranian people can't be hospitable, but it seeming like every single night. Ofcourse it could be the highlights

A brief update on their situation - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp94ymg3x1go.

They’ve both been separated and put in the worse prisons in Iran.

This is where the woman is being kept.

In an interview with IHRNGO, one former prisoner reported an infestation of pests, including cockroaches, which attack food whenever possible. According to prisoner accounts, the facility is not only overrun by these pests but also frequented by rats, salamanders, lizards, water bugs, and even venomous tarantulas.

The prison’s water is undrinkable and, if not boiled and filtered, can cause various gastrointestinal and kidney diseases. Political prisoners who were temporarily exiled to this prison report that the water is unsuitable even for showering. One political prisoner, detained at Qarchak during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests told Iran Human Rights that bathing with the mineral-laden water caused her to develop severe eczema, requiring nearly a year of treatment after her release.

Harsh, find it difficult how there can be no empathy for them.

I don't know much about the background of this case but I have very little sympathy for them if they were the type who were all like "everything will be fine" and especially if mocking people who raised concerns, with the impact this then also has on diplomatic staff and others who then have to deal with their case and potentially put themselves at risk.

Yep, very stupid thing to do but you’ve got to feel for them and their families.
Have you got to?

Plenty of warnings on .gov website telling them not to do what they were planning to. I am sure family members told them not to do it as well, but I could be wrong on that,

Would you feel empathy for someone (who was allegedly intelligent) who held their hand in a fire and then complained they got burnt?

Save empathy for those who actually deserve it I say...

Zero sympathy. Have to be an idiot to visit Iran for a wee holiday.
Iran seems to have a habit of accusing people of being spies and using them as leverage too....
India is probably fine for a man or if a woman is with a man (and not be left alone). I would not go as a single female, especially if you are white. Seen way too many women YouTubers who went there thinking it's fine but their experiences are just as everyone warned, one of them even tried to do things in tour groups, still got harassed.
one of my ex was obsessed with India and wanted to visit it some day...
I gave her the hold cold facts lol.... she woulda taken a young daughter over there with her too, just the 2 of them... visiting a "friend" off the internet....

Your going to get groped in crowds of people at a minimum... and lucky if your not ganged upon....

Being with Men, doesn't make you safe... even 3 of them...

Police in southern India said Saturday that they arrested two men in connection with allegations of gang rape of an Israeli and a local woman.

The Israeli and her homestay operator were stargazing along with three male travelers, an American and two Indians, in Koppal town in southern Karnataka state on Thursday night, police official Ram L. Arasiddi said.

According to an initial investigation, three men on a motorbike approached them while asking for money. Following arguments, the three men pushed the male travelers into a nearby water canal and sexually assaulted the women, Arasiddi said. One of the Indian tourists drowned and his body was recovered on Saturday. The American and another Indian swam to safety.
God help any white women who go over there, theyre in for one hell of a shock, as soon as they are walking through a busy marketplace or somewhere and hands start reaching out.

Egypt needs avoiding too if not for just all the people who make a living from constantly harassing tourists and trying to scam them
