Its on sky docs now, looks interesting. Its about the private security firms in iraq and the dangers they face.

Some are earning up to 160,000 a year.

This is the line of work i would love, as i believe there are many roles for IT needed there.

Theres someone on these forums who works there and does IT

Brothers gf's dad is doing it, he's ex forces and setup a security firm in iraq, works about 8 months a year and is raking it in.

It's a job role in what is literally the world's most dangerous zone. Your chances of dying are far higher in that particular spot than anywhere else on the planet, and I seriously would not accept even millions to go anywhere near that god-forsaken place.

Good luck :p

I'd never go there either, or I'd want a challenger 2 as my ride to work :p

The Gov likes using these like Blackwatch when the poo poo hits the fan the Gov dissappear and say ''nothing to do with us''. And give them no protection under the Geneva convention. Alternatively there is a fine line between contractors, mecenaries and Black-ops.

160k? Mate, the cleaners for these contractors are earing more than that. A relative of mine is commanding a unit of private security contractors in the Kurdish north and is on more like 7 figures.

When you say its your ideal job, do you mean, the ICT side, or the whole 'danger zone' side? Or is it because its a combination of both?!

Unfortionatley, to join a company such as CRG or AKE you need to have been in one of the forces as far as I know.

It was such a sureal experience having a BBQ in the middle of Baghdad with loads of beefcakes (ex forces) guys. I recall I felt quite inadequate (in the muscles department)!!!

2 of my mates have been over there working in IT for 6-8mths stints, one for Fujitsu one for EDS, they liked it to a point, but if you really want to make some money you have to be willing to risk going out on your own and contracting. For example, the lad with EDS was getting his normal wage (about 25k per year) then 70% of his normal wage on top tax free, then £50 per day bonus for every day he was out there. Sounds good? Well, not compared to the other guys out there not working for a company on anything from £200 to £500 per day for basic IT support!!

Both never really got near the action, closest was a mortar attack on a compound. One even got to stay in Saddams royal palace for part of his stay.

Outragous!! I had to pay tax on all of my earnings, even my extra 'bonus'! :(

tbh I'd be wanting more than that, I know people who get that for IT support over here and the risk of being shot is lot less :)

tbh contracting in most specialist areas in IT will get you that money here in the UK. i know people doing the same as me on £400 - £1k+ a day.
