I have that setup at home, my only issue with it is putty (although it could be irssi I guess) which doesn't display everything quite right, like when I try to type the £ symbol it comes up as £, and lots of other special characters are a little buggy too.
Although I like this setup, as I can remotely access it from anything that has an SSH client, I also know that it is not everyones cup of tea and that a lot of people who just want to try out IRC would most likely be happy with mIRC, which is what most people start out using.
