I seen there was a similar thread for Scottish history and been looking into this myself recently so thought it may be worth asking here if there's any history buffs around.

I'm looking for a good recommended book covering areas such as the Easter Uprising and also the Civil War. Got a few on the more recent troubles but looking for something looking into the earlier history.

The Irish War of Independence - Michael Hopkinson

Green Against Green: The Irish Civil War - Michael Hopkinson

Ireland 1798-1998 - Alvin Jackson

Ireland Since the Famine - F.S.L Lyons

These should be a decent place to start.

With Irish History its good to take a balanced view on things from different political sources, as with all accounts of history political tinted views tend to taint accounts. The context in which things happen is also very important.

Thanks guys, very much appreciated.

I agree Orcish, thats the approach i'd be taking. Coming from Glasgow, I know snippets from here and there but its an interesting subject and the earlier history in particular is something I dont know a great deal about.
