iron on patches

I got a patch for my shirt which I think is iron on as it has a white grid on the back. Anyone confirm? I got a patch last time and thought it wa siron on so tried ironing it on and it shrivelled up.

Also if it is iron on does anyone know if you iron directly onto the patch or do I need to put something inbetween so it does not melt it?

I'm not patching myself up like a mod Its to cover the logo I don't like up on a shirt I got for Christmas.
