Im running striker II/8GB DDR3 corsair 1600/Q9450/SLI GTX 280/Asus D2X Xonar/Spinpoint F1/Tagan 1300w and im getting IRQ issues.
This is because i have the soundcard in the middle pci-e 16x poirt as there is not another one on the board it will fit it (tope one it hits the ram). Both it and my graphics cards are being assignedthe IRQ of 16. I have tried it with the PNP bios option on and off and it makes no difference. It ill BSOD with an IRQ not less than or equal to error (CMUDAXP.sys file) or it will just freeze the current graphical frame and sound to whatever is on screenbeing played then.
Can't set IRQ's manually anymore :( all drivers are latest, MS website is down so i cant reinstall dx10 as i cant find a different instaler for it. Will be re-installing vista anyway in a week or so, and according to people online this has sometimes fixed it as it fixes DirectX but i dont think it will since in my specific case its deffo IRQ.

Any ideas on what i shuold try?

what?
the xonar d2x is pci express
is should be in a pci express X1 slot

i think you would be doing it no good running it in the X16 slot as that is for graphics

how have you set the bios up to address sound output?

this is off the product page
- 2 x PCIe x1 ( the PCIEx1_1 (black) is compatible with audio slot)

basically the black slot is for audio

i suggest you take it out of the 16X slot asap

I stated in my post that it hits the RAM if its in the top slot. A PCI-E 16x slot supports any PCI-E card so technically it works, which it does, its just the IRQ's are the same. Can you pelase define what you mean by setting up the bios to address sound output. Also this is going to be the only slot i have to use as it doesn't fit in the black slot and the only other free port is a PCI slot which even if i swap the card for the PCI version it may well be touching the back of one of the GTX280s :/

the boards product page on asus site states that the black pcieX1 slot is the audio slot

i meant did you set the sound output in the bios to the slot you wanted to use?
normally you have to enable/disable ob sound

let me get this straight

you are using two gtx 280 in sli right
but you are putting a pciEX1 soundcard in the middle pcieX16 slot?

isnt it supposed to be sli in the first two pcieX16 slots?

if the sound card doenst fit in the boards sound card specific lane then i suggest you cut your losses and trade the sound card for one that fits in one of the pci slots

the only other free port is a PCI slot which even if i swap the card for the PCI version it may well be touching the back of one of the GTX280s :/

if its touching the back it doesnt matter too much
it wont be restricting airflow to the gpu fan

Yea it is in the middle, the top and bottom ones are the PCI-E two lanes afaik and thats the suggested set up for SLI, triple you use hte middle one as well. One thought i've just had, does anyone know if the EK blocks for the GTX's are single slot? as if they are, when they arrive it will free up a seperate PCI-E slot and as such solve my issue.
I have disabled ob sound.
With regards to it touching the back, i know it wont cause an issue as such, just didnt really want there to be no airflow over the soundcard and if its touching the ramsink on the back of the card the heat from the GPU will transfer onto the soundcard.
If i can't resolve it soon then i will just trade it in for the PCI version.

from reading about the EK block, it does apperently reduce it to a single slot solution, so as long as i can find a back plate to use (one from my 7950gt should do the trick) then in theory i will be able to put the soundcard into a 1x Slot like it should be anyway. The top slot should work for anything, its just that Asus want there daught board soundcard there. Well, i can put up with it for now (only crashes a few times a day) until i get my new case and waterblocks etc which should be in the next week or two :D.
Thanks for your help guys.

cause its not nearly as good as the Xonar D2x for what i want. The daughter board card is basically a shiny new onbaord sound solution (no better than other recent on board sound), and that is nowhere near good enough for what i have in mind, I also didnt just invest in good speakers (finally) to have then nerfed by a low end soundcard. Using the daughter board is really a last resort and I'd rather take out a stick or two of ram tbh.

Ok, now im getting conflicting information from people on the net. The reason i say the D2x wont fit in the top slot is that AnAndTech said it doesn;t (interferes with RAM slots or something) and now looking around the net i find a few people saying it fits but its close, and others saying it doesn't fit.
I will test tonight when i get home as it will make my life easier while waiting for WB's
