IRQL_not_less_or_equal windows 7

Ok Update, after fiddling around and changing SATA ports my optical drive is back :)
I'll run the memtest and let you know how it gets on.
Thanks again all

"Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"
I'm not sure whether that's good or bad tbh. I just want something to fail already so I know what the problem is

It doesn't sound like you ran memtest for long - most folk recommend an overnight run.

Alternatively you could try Win7's inbuilt memory diagnostic - just type "memory" into the search box on the Start menu. I'm about to try that myself, because I'm also having very occasional BSODs that could be memory related. From what I've read, the Win 7 diagnostic can sometimes find problems that even a 24hr run of memtest misses. I'm going to put it in extended mode (which is apparently very, very slow) and let it run overnight. It auto reboots on completion, leaving a report in the system event log.

Edit: Ran two iterations of the "extended" tests in Windows Memory Diagnostic. It took around 6 hours to complete, and gave me a clean bill of health. It might be right because I can run IBT till the cows come home.

what memory usage are you seeing before you BSOD. Ive been experiencing a problem where my nvidia drivers steal away non paged memory every so often (reboot/uninstall drivers is only way to free it up again). While researching this I found a hotfix for a win7 memory leak that fixes a IRQ BSOD that occurs once the memory leak has eaten all your RAM and then crashes.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979444

"This issue occurs because Power Manager opens an Advanced local procedure call (ALPC) port. However, Power Manager closes another port instead of closing the ALPC port. Every time that a power request is made, a memory leak occurs. When the leaked memory usage accumulates to a certain level, the computer crashes."

To save you having to email microsoft, heres a link and password that will work for the next 6 days.

Unfortunately this didnt work for me - being a different issue, and may be nothing to do with your problems, but i thought i might as well put it out there.

Ok, I've run all the memory diagnostics for a descent amount of time and have nothing back from either.
Thanks Ch3m1c4l I might as well try the hotfix. I'll install it and hopes it works :)

SOrry if i'm missing something - if you had hard disk errors after a check disk and it triggered further bsod after they were fixed then it points to a hard disk issue to me. Run manufacturer diagnostics to rule it out

Ok well. I downloaded and ran WD diagnostics. Well tried anyway, it claims 'cable error! Please check cables' and does this for each of the three SATA drives in my machine (and my external USB HDD) I'm thinking the software is just a dud. Any other disk diag programs that people recommend?

Just had a new BSOD. This one gives atikmdag.sys error which I believe is the ATI display drivers. I've downloaded and installed the latest drivers from their website, anything else I should do to prevent this? Could it have been the ATI drivers which caused the other BSOD all along?

I used to get a lot of these errors when I had the wrong voltages / timings on my RAM, have you checked that these were correct, or thought about putting a bit more voltage through them?

When installing new display drivers it worth removing the old ones properly with drivercleaner, then rebooting then install the new ones. Especially if you've been having issues.

Thanks Cook1E. I've just done a clean install of the GPU driver and re-checked the voltages. I'll see what happens. I do have a bit of headway with extra voltage that I can put through the RAM so that'll be the next step.

How many sticks of RAM are you running, and are you running one or more cards in your machine? If its more than 2 (or 3 in 1366) RAM or more than one gpu you need more NB or SB voltage, if your ocing you probably need more NB voltage as well.

I discovered that lack of one of those voltages is what was causing my really weird RAM behavior and also random freezes and the odd IRQ BSOD.

Edit: which wasnt happening on vista, but has been since i got win 7, so its prob the SB ones, as I added another two HDD's

I haven't had any more BSOD yet so fingers crossed :)
I have 3x2GB DDR3 (socket 1366) and one GPU. I do have four HDD so that might be something to do with it. I'm thinking about replacing some of them with a 1TB F3. Seeing as three of my drives are 320GB
