Leave the computer alone, and it will sleep no matter if you turned off all power saver settings, sleep settings and screen saving settings. This sleep mode pauses all downloads currently in effect.

I started downloading CoD2 over Steam, and Vista paused it while I was at work. It's incredibly moronic that the computer must be attended to at least once every half an hour in order for large downloads to continue. I also downloaded America's Army from their website, with the Firefox downloader saying 0KB/s during the time Vista was on sleep mode. It is apparently normal that you can't leave Vista alone for large downloads.

Incredible.

Mines never gone to sleep...that i know of, but then Sleep and hibernate dont seem to work on mine, everytime i try it always seems to wake straight back up for some reason, dunno if my mouse is to sensitive or something. :(

It's quite ridiculous, I mean, I have hibernate and sleep set to 'never' in power settings, yet Vista completely ignores it. It's retarded programming at its best.

Strange, mine doesn't go into hibernation.

Make sure you go into the advanced power settings, and then click 'change settings that are currently unavailable'.

I left mine on for atleast 2 hours whilst playing on my 360 encoding video.

Check all the power settings as already said.

Left mine on for days and it never went to sleep once.

Maybe you need to check the compatibility of your pc/mainboard/BIOS with Vista, before making generalisations about how the software functions.

have to say it but i'm another user who leaves large downloads going all night long most nights, and during the day, and pretty much all the time. it never does anything particularly stupid or irritating, it definately doesn't go into sleep mode at all.

go into the advanced power settings and check the settings for the hard drive switching itself off. change the setting to 0 minutes. :)

I'm with the other guys on this one, I leave my Vista Ultimate machine on durning the night to decode avi files and convert them. Or I forget to turn it off. It has never gone to sleep. :)

my vista doesn't go to sleep when I do - bandwidth is cheap at night and appears to be unshaped (or it's just never busy) so I leave it to download things and read me bedtime stories. it's always on when I wake up unless I set it to sleep when the queue is finished downloading
