Is 16:10 dead?

16:10 1920x1200 is pretty much dead for cheap TN monitors. OcUK are selling the 26" Iiyama ProLite E2607WS and the 27.5" Hanns.G HZ281HPB, but they come at a premium compared to the 16:9 1920x1080 TN monitors, and they're larger than 24".

The HP ZR24w is an IPS 24" 1920x1200 monitor. OcUK appear no longer to be selling it though.

Not true, I just bought 3 samsung 2443bw TFT for eyefinity costing £210 each as u can still get these no problems, They also can be used in landscape and portrait views.

Very good TFT monitor if u can not afford an ips monitor. I wanted 3 ips monitors but at £1350 was pushing it so I got these.

Not only that samsung have or going to release the 2443dw the same monitor but with a displayport built in and 70000:1 contrast where's the the 2443bw is getting harder to get but has no displayport and is 50000:1 contrast.

The 1920x1200 res TFTs are still going strong but just by samsung but they do an exellent TFT monitor anyway.

Hope this helps

They're increasingly business/prosumer only, probably because 16:9 is cheaper to make and buyers don't notice/care anyway. I don't think I could tear myself away from 16:10 for general use (I have a ZR24W for my Mac Mini), but I'll live with a 16:9 for my PC gaming build since I want a 120hz one.

I noticed that 16.9 screens were always cheaper than 16.10, i bought a benq fp241w a few years ago, all of the 1920x1200 screens seemed to be uber expensive high end models with va/ips panels.

Having owned a Samsung 2433 (~£240 when bought) for the last year and seeing friends 16:9 letterbox screens, I would highly recommend the 16:10 format for computing use.

I noticed the difference for about...oh...5 seconds before I forgot about it. The difference is totally blown out of proportion, I really don't have a problem with either, I use 16:9 at home and 16:10 at work. I think, as mentioned above, manufacturing costs have dictated which format will become prevalent.

When I last looked at monitor upgrades, I was specifically looking for something 1920x1200, screen real estate is just too valuable, and 16:9 monitors just look wrong to me.

My Dell 2408 is brilliant, although not so good for gaming with a high response time. I may look at selling it and grabbing a couple of "normal" monitors, but they'd have to be 16:10 still.

I can't stand 16:9 personally. I run a single Hannspree 28" at the moment though so it's all fine and dandy. :)

1920*1200 all the way. Screen real estate is better than having to scroll down more :p

PLUS: As long as the monitor can do 1:1 bit mapping, then you don't lose anything when watching 16:9 content on the screen, but personally.. I use my 42" plasma for such things lol.
