Is 1750MHz reasonable for 1600MHz RAM?

Basically, like the subject says.

My CPU seems fairly content at 3.5GHz, but to get there I have to knock the RAM out of sync mode and set it to it's default 1600 (in normal day to day use the CPU is at 3.33GHz and the RAM is in sync mode at 1666, quite contentedly).

I've tried slackening the timings, but this had no effect at all, the machine cannot boot, sometimes it cannot even load the bootloader, claiming the disc is corrupt, when obviously it's the RAM.

From previous overclocking experiments, it seems that extra volts to the RAM doesn't do a lot of good, if anything it makes it a bit less stable (temps I suppose).

I'm wondering, before I go messing with various chipset voltages and the like, if 1750 is too much to ask of this RAM?

Also, Asus like to call a spade an AI-Loam-Transmogrifyer, so I'm not sure where to make changes in this BIOS.
