***IS 3Ghz On a E8400 Enough***

My brother runs his e8400 at stock and twinned with a 4870x2 it chews up all his games. I have mine at 3.6 (stock volts) with a gtx260 and it's pretty immense.

What graphics are you planning on using with it?

I certainly couldn't feel any large performance difference between my E8400 at stock and at 3.6GHz.

It's a very quick CPU before being overclocked, I wouldn't worry. :)

This is true, there is'nt a huge noticable difference, ok few secs in some benches, maybe 1 to 2 fps in some games, but its not like its a huge jump.

Mine is clocked @3.6ghz as per sig, basicly only due to it doing it on stock volts, and allows me to run my memory 1:1 which i allways prefer to do if i can.

So even without being able to overclock it, at stock speeds the E8400 is fine for gaming, and other stuff u throw at it.

Thats good to know! Its just because my mobo is crap and doesn't support overclocking. So im just buying it anyway and when i get a new system i will transfer the chip over and then overclock it form there. i heard also its a really good chip for source games:)
css:e8400 and a Ati 5850:) nice;)

is there any particular benefit from a 1:1 divider?

Nah from anything i can read up on, there is no real world performance benifit, iv never noticed one either, but ofcourse on my current setup i have no choice but to use that divider, can't use faster ram sadly, so have to clock it, which is'nt a problem, as my 800mhz memory will hit 1000mhz :D

Yeh there not bad cpu's at all, getting to be old tech, but if u don't need all singing all dancing they are perfect, just make sure you get a good cooler for it to go along with the new mobo down the line.

What CPU do you have in there at the moment? It might be one that is good for over 3Ghz with the right motherboard. It might be a better/cheaper buy to get a new motherboard. Also, if you did decide to get a new motherboard then you might as well try flashing your existing BIOS and if it dies then it dies.
