Is 3rd 290x worth it?

For my upcoming watercooled build I have settled on multiple 290xs (unless something better is announced on the 4th of this month). I want to hopefully go for 4K in the near future and I am not sure if 2 cards will cope or if I will need a 3rd. What is the scaling like with a 3rd card and is it really overkill?

Thanks in advance for your opinions

3 way crossfire is the best value, and best scalling( as far as i know), if you are going for 4k.
i would wait couple months for freesyinc 4k monitor, before investing in something else now.
two 2nd hand monitors for eyefinity untill then, with last catalyst driver, eyefinity became really cheap.

3-way 290's work very well in games like Crysis 3 / Tomb Raider / BF4. I haven't really tested many more titles and definitely not at 4K unfortunately.

If you want lots of AA with certain games @4K, you may well be better served by cards offering more than 4GB, though someone else that's tried it would have to confirm.

freesync = vsync off
28" 4k monitor = AA off
4Go of ram is plenty enough, especialy if you get 3 for the price of 1 card with 6Go, no brainer, beside he is watercooling, at a time where mining is crashing and 290s are cheap(just make sure it has a warranty and stress test it first, the investment isn'teven worth worrying about it's + on all angles)...

That's the smartest choice imo if you purchase wisely, you can get 3 290's for little more than 2 290X's.;)
