I keep reading on here that 55" is the minumum, always go bigger. I dont have a big budget and also the biggest i can fit in my lounge is 49". But looking around £800 is quite good for 49" tvs. My neighbour has a 75" cheap 1080p tv that is stupidly big for his lounge and the picture looks crap, like they are watching eastenders in minecraft blocky setting. It was very cheap at £300-£400 i think. Now i cant afford to up my budget or up my screen size so it is what it is.

The tv im looking at is the Sony Bravia KD49XG005 which is just under my budget on JL and Richer sounds. I would have got the Sony xf90 but cant seem to find them at 49". Is there any other tvs i should consider. TV will be mainly for Netflix, console gaming.

I currently have a 32" tv so i feel that i wont be disappointed by the 49" size and will think its huge.

If you're happy with the size it doesn't matter what other people think and coming from a 32" I expect you'll be delighted. I don't know where your TV will be located but I find 49" is a good size for corners now that bezels are so small.

My new 43" Samsung is actually smaller in overall size than my old 40" Sony.
If it's any help my Sony Bravia has been faultless for the last 10 yrs - I only upgraded for more TV functions.

I have a 43" in my living room as its built inside aa false wall. It's the biggest that will fit.

55" in bedroom as biggest that will fit in between the 2 doors.

Always get the biggest that will fit.

I have a 42 in my living room. That's the biggest in the house. It's fine.

All depends how big your rooms are and how much you want them dominated by a TV. I have a 4:3 17" in the kitchen for example. It's mostly used as a radio and background news TV, or to replicate something that's on the living room like football for fridge runs. There's no need for it to be any bigger.

It will be sat in the corner of the lounge on a corner unit.

49" is probably ideal then, with 55" I've had to pull the corner unit away from the walls a few inches which isn't ideal unless you have a big room and don't mind losing a bit of corner space.

Sony Bravia KD49XG005 good tv to pick then or should i be looking at alternatives?

I bought a graded 49XF9005 (previous model) form Sony last year. I watch from about 9-10 feet away in a fairly small room. I've been very pleased with it, both picture quality, size and the smart functions (despite reports of the smart functions being dodgy on this model).
