hi just wondering if 4 gb is enuff for me because sometime i get random slow downs

my current uses are

eyefinity, heavy gaming, msn,a lot of internet, steam , music playing in back ground, generaly a lot of apps running.

i thought now was the right time to ask because the ram i currently have is only £50 in the 1333mhz model instead of 1600mhz but there the same voltages and timings

Run the applications which you normally like to have running simultaneously and load their typical to maximum data sets, then open up Process Explorer or Task Manager and examine the "available" physical memory counter and if that value is staying low most of the time, you could probably benefit from more physical memory.

here's a screen shot of what i have open without playing games.

this normally takes up around 2.2gb but when i play games it easily goes up to only 400-500mb's free

EDIT: sorry for the stupid mega resolution

If you're referring to the "available" counter, then yes, you would probably benefit from adding more physical memory. Adding an extra 4GB of RAM will probably be a little too much and 6GB of total physical memory should be just about right for your workload. Though, having more physical memory than you actually need is by no means a bad thing, it's just if you can purchase an extra 2GB for a much cheaper price than a 4GB kit, it will save you a little bit of money.

Something to take into account regarding what you have said above is, if you do purchase extra memory which is rated at a lower speed than the memory which you're currently using, if the new kit of memory isn't able to reach the speed of your existing pair, you will need to down clock them.

thanks for that, i don't think i will be getting that 4gb pair now anyway because of low stock and it looks like it's going fast, and xmas and all that, but i will try and find a 2gb stick somewhere.

also what would happen to all this dual channel single channel stuff if i add 1 stick when im running dual channel?

Then it'll run in single channel. If possible try find two 1gb RAM sticks with similiar speeds and timings to your current ones, that way it'll still run in dual channel.
