Is 4k worth it?

I'm looking to move away from 1920x1080 and would like a good monitor to move to. I am getting a GTX 1080 FTW and have a budget of around £500 to spend on a new monitor. Any recommendations?

I'd suggest getting a decent 1440p, 4k is still too much for todays GPU's. And £500 will net in a MUCH nicer 27" 1440p IPS with gsync etc.

Also is gsync necessary with the new nvidia fast sync?

I honestly don't know, I game at 60Hz and have yet to try 144Hz

Could you recommend a specific model? The X34 looks good, but it's pricey and seems to have a lot of issues (From what i've seen).

I just bought a £300 monitor, BenQ GW2765HT, whilst the bezel and ancient menu buttons are not much to be desired, it's IPS panel is frankly stunning. I've just had an issue with black light bleed but it's already been arranged to be collected and a new one delivered tomorrow. Think I just got unlucky.

X34 I hear has terrible black light bleed, I was almost sold by it, but then price tag quickly scared me.

You also have the Asus ROG Swift PG279Q which is the IPS version of the cheaper PG278Q. I almost went for this, but again, price wasn't right for me.

I'm mostly particular about colour reproduction which is also why I've still got my trust 50" plasma and not been sold on washed out LCD TV's.

So, if that's your gig, the BenQ will satisfy you. It sits around 4ms grey to grey response time. Honestly, I don't notice input lag on it.

For £300, the BenQ is not to be sniffed at, chuck in a £15 monitor stand and you're laughing.
