When I play games like GTA 4, GTA 5, Tomb Raider, or any other CPU intensive task, the CPU temperature rises to 80c. The CPU is not overclocked at all. Is this too hot? Should I buy a new cooler? If so, which one?

I'm currently using the stock fan cooler and my PC case is a Cooler Master Cooler Master CM 690. I have 4 120mm case fans: 1 at the front, 1 at the back, and 2 at the top. They all work at full speed and the case has very good ventilation.

It is indeed a bit on the hot side. But then tbh, the stock intel cooler is very poor to say the least. Doesnt help that ivybridge chips are hot runners to start with due to being pasted instead of soldered. What sort of budget do you have for a cooler, and is your ram low profile or heat fin/sink modules?

You have to consider heat from your GPU adding to it, and look at your case setup. For instance I get lower temps in prime 95 with my CPU on full load, than with B4F with much less load, but a G1 belting out 73 degrees of its own heat into the case.

Just about any cooler will give you better temps than the stock one. I'm not up to date on air cooling but you could probably get a 120mm possibly 240mm (secondhand) AIO cooler for the £40 mark.

Edit: Not sure how well it reviews but there's this:

Edit x2:

Found this, shows a direct comparison between the Rev 1 cooler and the Hyper 212 evo. Pretty much the same performance. I would expect the Rev 2 version to be slightly better.
