Is 9900k worth upgrading to from 8700?

Ended up with RTX3900 after getting bored waiting for 3800 and my 8700 is not cutting it.

I'm planning to do a fully upgrade once the dust has settled with rocket lake - new cpu / motherboard / case etc - but in the meantime is it worth upgrading to a 9900k as no new motherboard needed?

Not too fussed money-wise (will be around £300) and will ebay the 8700 but will it be a noticeable upgrade for gaming?

Aiming for 4k60 with mostly max settings but find single cores maxing out - recently Crysis and just got Valheim today and even that won’t hit 60 consistently even though gpu usage is low.

It’s non k so can’t be overclocked.

I already have 32GB of RAM so this is the only upgrade I can do without needing a new motherboard.

The 9900k is £300 on amazon and probably £120ish back on ebay for the 8700.

This could potentially hold me over until next years offerings... decisions....

Can't imagine a 8700 having a problem running Crysis at 60fps. Have you disabled vsync?

Crysis Remastered - it maxes out a single core and DLSS makes the frame rate worse..

Yeah Crysis is not a good example and based on comments here does sound like a waste of money getting a 9900k so will leave for now - cheers all...
