Is a 1.6 C2D quicker than a P4 3GHz?

In very crude terms, a dual core 'Core 2 Duo' is roughly twice as fast as a Dual core 'Pentium D' at any given clock rate.

So a 1.6Ghz Core 2 Duo, would be comparible with a 3.2ghz P4D.

In single threaded apps, the P4, and P4D performance is virtually the same, of course in multithreaded apps where your using both processor cores, the dual core chips (be it P4D, or Core2 Duo) both outperform the single core Pentium 4's. (IE the C2D is still about twice as fast as a P4D in multithreaded apps, with both cores fully loaded.)
