I have a 20" atm but I think my eyes are getting strained cos since having this monitor my eye sight is gong down hill. The "19 lcd I had before was a good size for fonts and stuff, so Im looking for another monitor so the font ect size would be roughly the same size as my 19" and I was thinking a 27"???

Somewhere between 28" and 32" I think (at 1920x1080)... Go by vertical measurements, as 1280x1024 is non-widescreen while all screens now are widescreen...

26" or 27" monitor

From the sticky (mentioned above) - http://www.tvcalculator.com/

Enter the appropiate sizes
19" - 5:4 - 1280x1024
26" - 16:10 - 1920x1200 (widescreen computer monitors are usually 16:10, TV's are usually 16:9)
(Ignore the picture of the swan)

Pixel density : smaller number = bigger text

So my 19" non widscreen is 86.3 Pixels per inch, and a 27" widescreen is 83.8 Pixels per inch.

So does this mean the text will be slightly bigger on a 27" then on my 19"???

Just gone back to my 19" viewsonic and its much easier on the eyes, but it looks a tad strange cos its isnt widescreen. The reason why I changed my 19" to a 20" is cos the power supply is dying on the 19" and I got a dirt cheap 20" to tade me over, but like I said the 20" inch is slowly killing my eyes.

I guess I could get 2 19" non widescreen monitors if Im going to have the same problem with a 27"?? I have seen the viewsonic 28" that has the same res as a 24" for roughly the same price as a 27"... ideas ideas.. What do you guys think I should do??

Edit: just thought guys, a 19" would run games better then on a 27 or 28" cos Ive only got a 3870 card, so I would have to upgrade the card aswell,, dammit.

A 1080p HDTV has almost the same vertical resolution at a 19" TFT - 1080 vs 1024.

If you want text to be the same size but widescreen, get a 1080p HDTV with the same vertical height (around 30cm), which I think equates to a 32" or 37" HDTV. :)

but 2 prob with running a pc off a tv, and tell me if Im wrong here. 1. You get very little desktop space and 2. the display isnt as sharp and clear cos of the low res??

1. You get very little desktop space
A 37" widescreen LCD will take up a similar amount of room on your desk as 2 x 4:3 19" TFT's. It all depends on how big your desk is. :)
2. the display isnt as sharp and clear cos of the low res??
You be running the same dot pitch as the 19" inch screens, so it will look just like the 19" screens... maybe better. This is what you were after in the first place wasn't it? The text will be the same size even. :)

It might be worth checking out that 28" screen also...

The answer to your question is:

The text on the 27" monitor at native res will be roughly 7% larger than the text on the 19" monitor at native res:

* For a 4:3 monitor, the vertical height is 60% of the diagonal length. For a 16:10 widescreen monitor the vertical height is 53% of the diagonal length (simple trig).

* Your 19"-er will have a vertical height of 11.4", leading to a pixel size of 0.01113" at 1280*1024 resolution

* the 27"-er will have a vertical height of 14.31", leading to a pixel size of 0.011925" at 1920*1200 resolution

Hence, the pixels on the 27"-er would be 7.15% larger than on the 19"-er. The text size will scale with pixel size, so expect roughly 7% larger font. Not so much bigger really.

thanks, just aslong as the text and stuff isnt any smaller then on my 19". Cos atm the eyes are loving going back to my 19". I think I will get the viewsonic 28" cos the dell 27" is quite abit more. But the next thing will games run dog slow cos im slightly temped to go for a 19" normal cos I can max out all my games..??

Why is changing computer hardware sooooo hard, cos you keep running into problems?

A update guys... Ive been gamming on my viewsonic VX912 19" yesterday and tonight and I have to say the pic quailty looks loads better then on my 20", maybe cos I cant run the 20" at its native res of 1680x150 and only running it in 1440x900 for most games. I should be able to run it in its native res cos 1680x1050 isnt much diff then 1440x900, but for some reason it runs slightly jerky.

Ive seen a Viewsonic VX922 on the bay, and my idea If I can get it cheap I will have that as my main monitor and my old vx912 19" connected up as the secondry monitor so I can have a larger desktop if need be. if I dont get this mointor, I would love a 27" 28" but the prob with a higher res monitior I will have to upgrade more often and I havent got that sort of money to be upgrading every few months to run the latest games at its native res or 1 lower, but I wouldnt really want to run games anymore then 1 lower res then its native on a 27 or 28" would I??

Edit: My eyes feel loads better since Ive been back on my old 19" btw.. Im thinking to get my eyes checked out at some point cos Ive had the 20" since about may - june time, and I think it has caused some damage cos my eyes arnt as good as before I got the dam 20" monitor.

Just turn on my 19" this morning and it took ages to stay on, just kepr flashing for a good 30secs or so before staying on. Thats the reason I got the 20".

Oh what the heck guys Im going to buy a 27 or 28" and what the hell if my pc is rubbish at running it, Cos Im thinking Im going to regret it if I dont, and now you guys have confirm me about the text size, I would be stupid not getting a 27 or 28".
